Meet Gunnar, and why That’s My Pup was born
Share
I lost my mom to cancer. Grief hit hard, and in that void, I adopted Gunnar from a rescue organization. What started as a simple act of kindness soon became something deeply meaningful.
Gunnar wasn’t just a pet—he became my constant companion, friend, and source of unconditional love. Today, his legacy lives on through That’s My Pup, a company dedicated to creating custom dog figurines that memorialize your cherished companions—and help rescue dogs in need.
Inseparable companion
From day one, Gunnar was always by my side. We traveled across Canada, Vermont, and along Lake Michigan’s shores. He joined my mornings at Electric Enjin—seeing clients, greeting employees, and even hugging the mailman.
He inspired us to host adoption events, bringing hope to shelter dogs searching for homes. Dog portraits, social media posts, and videos featuring Gunnar “helped countless pups find families,” reflecting his genuine warmth. His impact wasn’t just on me—it radiated through everyone who met him.
A passion for rescue
Gunnar’s gentle spirit and calm nature left a profound mark. He had no prey drive, greeted strangers with licks and smiles, and even treated small wildlife with care. Watching him changed me—and it inspired me.
I started volunteering, transporting high‑kill shelter dogs to safety. Gunnar was the star of the journey, comforting anxious pups and reassuring me that second chances matter. His mission became mine: helping dogs who needed a voice find their forever homes.
Honoring gunnar’s legacy
At just eight years old, Gunnar was diagnosed with aggressive cancer. The vet immediately suggested euthanasia. I knew I wanted so much more for him.
We decided on one last adventure—pup cups, beach days, and long drives with Marvin Gaye albums playing. We built a cozy downstairs retreat for him and spent every waking moment together. Gunnar gracefully crossed the rainbow bridge on September 16, 2023, in my arms.
Afterward, I sought ways to remember him. I collected German Shepherd memorabilia, but none felt personal. None captured Gunnar.
That’s when the idea came: a pet memorial figurine uniquely modeled after my best friend. One that honors his likeness and our bond. One that isn’t just decorative—but deeply meaningful.
Why we built “that’s my pup”
Creating custom dog figurines isn’t just a product—it’s our promise to help you preserve your dog’s memory. Here’s why it matters:
-
Personalization is powerful: The pet memorials market was valued at around USD 1.2 billion in 2024 and expects a compound annual growth rate of 8.5% through 2033 . Owners want unique tributes that reflect their bond. A generic item just won’t do.
-
Comfort in mourning: Personalized memorials play a key role in coping with loss. The global pet memorial products market is projected to reach over USD 7 billion by 2027 . Our figurines offer a tangible reminder of love and shared memories.
-
Demand meets purpose: In an era when pets are truly family, demand for custom dog gifts, unique pet memorials, and dog tributes is booming . That’s My Pup answers that need—and gives back to shelters with a charitable donation program supporting rescue dogs.
